Drone-as-First-Responder (DFR) ProgramConyers PD DFR PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Conyers Police Department’s Drone‑as‑First‑Responder (DFR) Program is built on a simple principle: use technology to keep people safe while honoring the trust this community places in us. Our mission is to provide rapid, informed support to officers and residents by deploying drones to emergency calls for service, giving first responders the critical information they need to make safer, smarter decisions.

DFR strengthens our ability to protect the City of Conyers by:

  • Reducing response times and improving situational awareness for police, fire, and EMS.
  • Enhancing officer and community safety.
  • Supporting searches for missing or endangered persons, including lost children or the elderly.
  • Providing real‑time information to guide the safest and most appropriate response to police officers.
  • Allowing officers to resolve some calls without physical contact, reducing risk for everyone involved.

This program is not used to proactively search for wrongdoing, conduct random surveillance, or invade anyone’s privacy. DFR is a reactive tool, launched only in response to calls for service or clearly defined public‑safety needs. Every flight is tied to a documented purpose.

Because transparency is essential to maintaining trust, all DFR flights are automatically logged using software that makes flight data publicly accessible. Flight data is available on the Conyers Police website or through the CPD App. This ensures our community can see how and when drones are used, reinforcing our commitment to responsible, accountable policing.

The City of Conyers deserves a police department that embraces innovation without compromising our values. DFR is one more way we work to protect you with professionalism, clarity, and respect.

If you have questions about the program, how it works, or how we safeguard your privacy, we welcome the conversation.
